Reduced EDT Dublin
6 Lessons for Foreign Licence Holders

Already hold a foreign driving licence? You may qualify for Reduced EDT — just 6 RSA-approved lessons to obtain your full Irish licence. Door-to-door pickup across North Dublin.

What Is Reduced EDT in Ireland?

Reduced EDT is a shortened Essential Driver Training programme for people who already hold a valid full driving licence from a country outside the EU/EEA. Instead of completing the standard 12-lesson EDT course, qualifying applicants need only complete 6 RSA-approved EDT lessons before they are eligible to sit the Irish driving test.

The Reduced EDT scheme recognises that drivers holding a foreign licence already have foundational driving experience. The 6 lessons focus on Irish-specific road rules, traffic signs, driving standards, and the requirements of the RSA driving test — giving you the best possible preparation to pass your test first time.

At BP Driving School, our RSA-approved instructor covers Reduced EDT across all of North Dublin, including Swords, Finglas, Raheny, Malahide, Artane, Coolock, Clontarf, Baldoyle, Donabate, Killester, Portmarnock, and Santry. Lessons are available in English and Croatian, 7 days a week, with door-to-door pickup from your home or workplace.

Who Qualifies for Reduced EDT?

You qualify for Reduced EDT if you hold a full driving licence (not a learner permit) from a country that Ireland does not recognise for direct licence exchange. This means your country is outside the EU/EEA and not on Ireland's recognised exchange list (which includes Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, South Africa, New Zealand, UK and others who can swap directly). Common qualifying countries include:

🇺🇸 USA🇧🇷 Brazil🇮🇳 India🇵🇭 Philippines🇵🇰 Pakistan🇳🇬 Nigeria🇨🇳 China🇺🇦 Ukraine🇲🇽 Mexico🇷🇸 Serbia🇧🇦 Bosnia🇪🇬 Egypt
Important: If your licence is from an EU/EEA country (e.g. Croatia, Poland, Romania, Lithuania, etc) or a recognised exchange country (Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, South Africa, New Zealand, Switzerland, UK, USA — wait, USA is not on the exchange list), you may be able to exchange your licence directly at the NDLS without any EDT lessons.
