Every EDT session your ADI completes with you is recorded on the RSA’s MyRoadSafety portal — the digital backbone of the EDT programme. Knowing how to check your own record puts you in control: you can verify each session is logged correctly, spot any missing entries early, and confirm you are ready to apply for the driving test. This guide walks you through the portal from registration to test application.

Source & Credit: The MyRoadSafety portal is operated by the Road Safety Authority (Údarás Um Shábháilteacht Ar Bhóithre) of Ireland. All EDT session recording requirements described in this guide are based on the RSA Essential Driver Training (EDT) Learner Driver Information Booklet, Version 2, April 2019. Access the portal at myroadsafety.ie and official EDT information at rsa.ie. BP Driving School is an RSA-approved driving school (ADI) in Swords, North Dublin.

What Is MyRoadSafety?

MyRoadSafety (myroadsafety.ie) is the RSA’s official online portal for learner drivers, ADIs, and driving test candidates in Ireland. It is the digital system that sits behind the physical EDT logbook — every session your ADI records in your logbook is also logged on MyRoadSafety in real time.

For learners, the portal is the single authoritative source of your EDT completion record. Unlike the physical logbook, it cannot be lost, damaged, or left at home. It is linked directly to your learner permit number — so wherever you are in Ireland, your EDT record is accessible online.

The portal also manages the RSA driving test application process. Once all 12 EDT sessions are recorded, MyRoadSafety is where you book your test date, pay the test fee, and select your test centre.

Who uses MyRoadSafety? Three groups. Learners — to check their EDT progress and apply for the driving test. ADIs — to register learners, record completed sessions, and manage their scheduling. Driving test candidates — to book, reschedule, or cancel test appointments. This guide focuses on the learner experience.

MyRoadSafety vs the Physical Logbook

A question that comes up regularly: if MyRoadSafety has all my records, do I still need the physical logbook? The answer is yes — both are required, and they serve different purposes.

MyRoadSafety (Digital) EDT Logbook (Physical)
Authoritative record? Yes — the primary RSA record Supporting document
Can it be lost? No — stored on RSA servers Yes — must be safeguarded
Required for driving test? Yes — verified by RSA system Yes — presented to examiner on test day
Who updates it? Your ADI (after each session) Your ADI (signs & stamps each session)
Can learner edit it? No — read-only for learners No — ADI entries only
What to do if there’s a problem? Contact your ADI to correct the record Contact your ADI for a replacement

Think of it this way: MyRoadSafety is the filing cabinet; the physical logbook is the document you hand to the examiner. You need both. See our EDT logbook guide for full details on the physical document.

How to Create Your MyRoadSafety Account

You do not need a MyRoadSafety account for your ADI to record your sessions — your ADI works under their own ADI login. But having your own account means you can see your record, verify each session as it is entered, and manage your test application when the time comes. It takes under five minutes to set up.

1
Go to myroadsafety.ie
Open myroadsafety.ie on any browser. Click the Register or Create Account button on the homepage. Use a device you have regular access to — you will return to this account throughout your EDT programme.
2
Enter your learner permit details
You will be asked for your learner permit number (printed on the front of your permit card), your date of birth, and a valid email address. The email address must be one you can access — it is used for account verification and driving test notifications. Use a personal email address rather than a school or work one that may change.
3
Verify your email address
Check your inbox for a verification email from the RSA. Click the verification link to activate your account. If it does not arrive within a few minutes, check your spam or junk folder. The link typically expires after 24 hours — if it has expired, return to myroadsafety.ie and request a new one.
4
Set your password
Create a secure password. Use something you will remember — you will log in to this account regularly throughout your EDT programme and again when booking your test. Avoid simple passwords like your date of birth or permit number.
5
Log in and check your profile
Once registered and verified, log in and navigate to your EDT section. If you have already completed sessions with your ADI, they should appear here. If your account is new and you have not yet started EDT, the session list will show 12 pending entries waiting to be filled.
Register before Session 1 if possible. Creating your account before your first EDT lesson means you can immediately verify that Session 1 is recorded correctly after it is completed. It also means you are set up and ready rather than scrambling to create an account later in the programme when you need to apply for the test.

How to Check Your EDT Sessions

Once logged in, navigating to your EDT record is straightforward. The exact menu labels may vary slightly as the RSA updates the portal, but the general path is:

1
Log in at myroadsafety.ie with your email and password.
2
From the dashboard or main menu, look for “My EDT”, “EDT Progress”, or “Learner Record”.
3
You will see a list of all 12 EDT sessions. Completed sessions will be marked with a tick, checkmark, or green indicator. Sessions not yet recorded will appear as pending or empty.
4
Each completed session shows the date it was completed and the ADI who recorded it. Cross-reference these against your physical logbook to confirm they match.
5
You can also see an overall completion indicator — how many of the 12 sessions are done and how many remain.

What the Portal Shows You

The MyRoadSafety portal shows learners a read-only view of their EDT record. You cannot add, edit, or delete any entries — all changes are made by your ADI. What you can see includes:

Session Completion Status

Which of the 12 sessions are recorded as complete, and which are still outstanding. An overall progress indicator shows how many of 12 are done.

Session Dates

The date each completed session was recorded by your ADI. Cross-reference these against your physical logbook to confirm they match.

ADI Details

The name and ADI licence number of the instructor who recorded each session. Useful if you have changed ADI or if there is a discrepancy.

Test Application Status

Whether you are eligible to apply for the driving test (all 12 sessions complete), and any previous test applications or results associated with your permit number.

Test Centre Information

Available test centres and dates when you proceed to the test application stage. You can select your preferred centre — Finglas and Raheny are the main North Dublin centres.

Notifications

Email alerts for session recordings, test booking confirmations, test reminders, and test result notifications are sent to the email address on your account.

Checking Your Progress?

Your sessions should appear on MyRoadSafety within 48 hours of each lesson. Contact Bojan if anything is missing.

What to Do If a Session Is Missing

If you log into MyRoadSafety and a session you have completed is not showing, work through the following steps before assuming there is a serious problem:

1
Check the timing. ADIs typically record sessions within 24–48 hours of the lesson. If your lesson was yesterday, wait one full working day before raising it. Do not check during the lesson itself — the entry may not be live yet.
2
Refresh the page and log out then back in. Occasionally the portal displays cached data. A full logout and fresh login resolves display issues that are not actually recording problems.
3
Check you are logged in with the correct account. If you have more than one email address, confirm you are using the one linked to your learner permit. Logging in with a different email will show a different (empty) record.
4
Contact your ADI. If 48 hours have passed and the session is still not showing, contact your ADI — Bojan at BP Driving School — directly. Give them the date of the session. They can check their MyRoadSafety dashboard and enter the session if it was missed. This is a quick fix when caught early.
5
Do not wait weeks. The longer a missing entry goes unresolved, the harder it is to verify — particularly if there is any ambiguity about session dates. Check your record after every session and raise issues promptly.
Approaching your test date with a missing session? If all 12 sessions are not recorded on MyRoadSafety, the system will not permit you to apply for the driving test. Do not leave this until the week of your test. If a session is genuinely missing and your ADI cannot resolve it quickly, contact the RSA directly via rsa.ie/contact-us.

How to Apply for the RSA Driving Test Through MyRoadSafety

Once all 12 EDT sessions are recorded and your MyRoadSafety account shows a complete record, you can apply for the RSA driving test through the portal. Here is the full process:

1
Confirm all 12 sessions are recorded
Log in to MyRoadSafety and verify that all 12 EDT sessions show as complete. Also confirm your physical EDT logbook has all 12 entries signed and stamped. Both must be in order before you proceed.
2
Navigate to "Book Driving Test"
From the MyRoadSafety dashboard, select the driving test booking option. The system will verify your EDT completion status automatically. If EDT is not fully recorded, the booking option will not be available.
3
Select your test centre
Choose your preferred RSA driving test centre. For learners in North Dublin, the main centres are Finglas and Raheny. Both are centres where BP Driving School’s pre-test lessons and mock tests are specifically designed to prepare you for the actual test routes. Choose based on availability and which routes you have practised on.
4
Select your test date and time
Available slots are shown in a calendar view. Select a date and time that works for you. Bear in mind: book your pre-test lessons and mock test before this date — ideally completing your final pre-test lesson no more than a day or two before the test itself.
5
Pay the test fee
The RSA driving test fee is paid online through MyRoadSafety at the time of booking. The current fee is set by the RSA — check rsa.ie for the current amount as fees are subject to change. Payment is by card. Keep your booking confirmation email.
6
Receive your booking confirmation
You will receive a confirmation email with your test date, time, centre, and reference number. Save this email and bring the confirmation (printed or on your phone) to the test centre on the day.
What to bring on test day: Your valid learner permit, your completed EDT logbook (all 12 sessions signed and stamped), and your test booking confirmation. Arriving without any of these may result in the test being refused. See our pre-test checklist for the full list.

After the Test — What MyRoadSafety Shows

After your RSA driving test, your result is recorded on MyRoadSafety. Here is what happens in each scenario:

Outcome What MyRoadSafety Shows What Happens Next
Pass Test result recorded as Pass. Your full licence application process begins. Apply for your full Category B licence through the NDLS (ndls.ie). Your test pass certificate is your proof of pass.
Fail Test result recorded as Fail. Fault categories and grades are visible on your record. You can rebook the test through MyRoadSafety immediately. Review your fault report with your ADI, complete additional practice, and book pre-test lessons before rebooking.
No show / cancelled late Test marked as not sat. Fee may be forfeited depending on cancellation notice period. Rebook through MyRoadSafety. Check RSA cancellation policy — cancellations made with less than the required notice period forfeit the test fee.
Failed your test? It happens to many learners — and it is recoverable. The fault report visible on MyRoadSafety after the test tells you exactly what the examiner recorded. Go through it with Bojan, identify the specific areas to work on, book a number of targeted pre-test lessons, and rebook when you are genuinely ready. Most learners who fail once pass on their second attempt with structured preparation.

Troubleshooting Common Portal Issues

Problem Likely Cause Fix
Cannot log in — password not working Forgotten password or account locked after multiple failed attempts Use the “Forgot Password” link on the login page. A reset link is sent to your registered email. If you no longer have access to that email, contact RSA support.
Verification email never arrived Filtered to spam/junk, or incorrect email entered at registration Check spam and junk folders first. If the email address was entered incorrectly, you will need to re-register with the correct address.
Session completed but not showing after 48 hours ADI has not yet recorded it, or system delay Contact your ADI with the session date. They can add the entry. Do not wait — raise it within 48–72 hours of the lesson.
Wrong session date recorded ADI entered an incorrect date Contact your ADI immediately. They can correct the entry on MyRoadSafety. Cross-reference with your physical logbook.
Session recorded by the wrong ADI name You changed ADI and the system still shows the previous one, or a data entry error Contact both ADIs to clarify. The RSA MyRoadSafety support team can assist if the ADIs cannot resolve it directly.
Can’t find the test booking option Not all 12 sessions recorded yet, or account not fully verified Confirm all 12 sessions show as complete. If they do but the option is still not available, contact RSA support via rsa.ie/contact-us.
No test slots available at preferred centre High demand — Finglas and Raheny are busy test centres Check regularly — cancellations create new slots. Consider alternative nearby centres (Dún Laoghaire, Clonmel) if waiting is not practical. You can also set up email alerts for new slots on some systems.
Learner permit number not recognised at registration Permit number entered incorrectly, or permit issued under a different system Check the permit card carefully — the number is typically preceded by letters. If the issue persists, contact the NDLS (ndls.ie) to verify your permit number.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the MyRoadSafety portal?

MyRoadSafety (myroadsafety.ie) is the RSA’s official online portal for learner drivers in Ireland. It records your EDT session completions, verifies your eligibility to sit the driving test, and manages test bookings and results.

How do I create a MyRoadSafety account?

Go to myroadsafety.ie, click Register, and enter your learner permit number, date of birth, and email address. Verify your email via the link sent to your inbox. The process takes under five minutes.

Why is a session not showing after my lesson?

ADIs typically record sessions within 24–48 hours. Wait one full working day, then contact your ADI if the entry still has not appeared. Do not leave it longer than 72 hours — missing entries are much easier to resolve promptly.

Can I apply for the RSA driving test through MyRoadSafety?

Yes — once all 12 EDT sessions are recorded, the portal unlocks the test booking function. You select your test centre, choose a date and time, and pay the test fee online. Bring your completed physical EDT logbook to the test on the day.

What information does MyRoadSafety show about my EDT?

You can see which sessions are complete, the date each was completed, and the ADI who recorded each entry. You can also see your test application history and — after the test — your result and fault report.

Does MyRoadSafety replace the physical EDT logbook?

No. Both are required. MyRoadSafety is the authoritative digital record; the physical EDT logbook is the document you present to the examiner on test day. A complete digital record without the physical logbook is not sufficient to sit the test.

RSA reference: This guide covers the RSA’s MyRoadSafety portal as used within the Essential Driver Training (EDT) programme. Session recording requirements are based on the RSA EDT Learner Driver Information Booklet, Version 2, April 2019. Access the portal at myroadsafety.ie and EDT information at rsa.ie.
